Georgia Man Facing Felony Charges after DUI-Related Crash

On July 4, a 15-year-old girl was killed after the car she was riding in was struck by a pickup truck. The driver responsible for this wreck was arrested the following day by the Georgia Highway Patrol. He is facing various felony and misdemeanor charges for the incident.

According to a local news source, a 21-year-old male was operating his vehicle southbound on Lumpkin Campground Road when he allegedly ran through a stop sign and struck a sedan at the Industrial Park Road intersection. He was injured in the collision as were the driver and two passengers in the sedan. A third passenger in the car reportedly died at the scene of the crash.

The accused was transported to an area hospital for treatment, and he was arrested the following day upon his release. Bond was set in his case at just over $40,000. It is said that he was able to post bond quickly and is now out of police custody.

The charges filed against the accused include felony vehicular homicide, injury by vehicle, open container, drug possession, reckless driving and failure to stop — among others. With the severity of these charges, if convicted in a Georgia criminal court this individual could face a lengthy prison sentence, hefty fines and various other penalties. While fighting a criminal case of this nature will not prove to be an easy task, an experienced attorney can assist the accused by questioning the evidence offered against him and then pursuing a defense option that will best suit his situation.
